Reality

The question is sometimes posed as to whether or not we are real, whether or not we actually exist. Well in a sense this can be a useful idea to play with but one nevertheless I would endeavor to eliminate. Such a fanciful proposition has little to offer unless we are preferring to create mysteries rather than to solve any.
This idea invites us to suppose that we are merely the product of a dreamer, one presumably existing somewhere other than here and as such existing somewhere that is actually real..! Then again, it is sometimes seriously suggested that we are nothing more than the product of our own imagination! I really can’t imagine how that would work. And, of course, there are bound to be specimens even more bizarre.
But to say that REAL is other than we are, is to say that REAL exists somewhere other than here. As such, we are acknowledging and asserting that REAL does in fact exist.
Thus, if we decided that we were not real, just ignoring the absurd for a moment, in reality we would actually be creating ourselves. So if Real could somehow not exist then we the unreal would instantly be creating it!
But no such condition is likely or could survive. Without there being REAL how could there be UNREAL? We cannot Be unreal. If we are saying that we are unreal, then we are, in effect, saying that reality lies elsewhere.
If we should imagine ourselves to be the product of a dream, then we are assuming that there is a dreamer and that the dreamer is real. But such a dreamer could be no more real to himself and his surrounding than we are to ourselves and our surroundings; nor could he ever be as real to us as we are to our selves, or we to him as he is to himself. We are each of us the measure of our own reality and neither one can be more real than the other. Thus, if the dreamer is real then so are we.
When we look at the wonderful complexity of our world and the universe, at all the billions of stars in their various states of self expression, then this would have to be a most remarkable and consistent thing to be dreamed. And similarly, if we could be the creation of our own dreaming, then there would certainly be plenty of metamorphosing going on everywhere: any universe sustained by such dreaming would certainly be a nightmare! It could hardly be in the stable and consistent creation that we presently experience.
Thus, without doubt, when we close our eyes, the world is still there. And with them open, the light that you see is the same light that we all see. I wonder if that can be said of the darkness we see when they are closed? However, to return to the question of real versus imagined.
Do we actually exist? Such negative thinking could only survive where a rational understanding of creation was painfully absent.
If we are of the same substance as another then we are real to each other, just as the characters in a dream are real to each other; what other reality could there possibly be? To beings of another dimension, we might be regarded as unreal, perhaps, but if a thing can be seen to exist in any dimension by another in some other dimension, then, without question, both are as real as each other. Thus, if we can perceive of one that is real in another dimension, then we must be real in our own dimension.
If a thing is not real then it has no existence either so-called real or unreal. Even if a thing could possibly be seen as unreal, it would still obviously be existing somewhere and therefore be real. Whatever way we choose to look at it, there is either real or there is nothing. As soon as we speak or write about something, then it confirms that we and it are real. Even a fantasy is real where it exists. We are the true measure of our own reality.
Yet none of this is the best argument that could be given for our existence being real, or that we are more than mere phantoms living a dream. This simply introduces the subject of existence.
